About the role:

Help shape the financial picture behind vital services

If you enjoy making sense of detail, spotting what matters and helping colleagues understand the story behind performance, this could be the role for you.

Our Pharmacy and Funeral teams provide important services across local communities. Behind those services, good financial insight helps teams plan, respond and make confident decisions.

We’re looking for a Management Accountant to support our trading areas with accurate reporting, clear analysis and well-managed period-end processes.

You’ll be part of our Management Accounts team, working closely with the Senior Management Accountant and colleagues across Pharmacy, Funeral and wider Finance to keep information timely, reliable and useful.

This is a role which would suit someone who genuinely enjoys working with numbers, accuracy and structure. You'll be someone who can confidently understand and explain a profit and loss account and balance sheet, with the curiosity to investigate variances and the attention to detail to ensure high-quality financial reporting.

Turn careful accounting into useful insight

In this role, you’ll do more than prepare figures for review.

You’ll help make sure our financial information is complete, well-evidenced and easy to understand, so leaders can see what is happening and why.

That means taking ownership of key ledger areas, preparing journals, maintaining reconciliations and supporting the analysis that explains changes in revenue, costs and margins.

You’ll also play an important part in keeping period-end activity on track, identifying anything that needs attention and helping ensure reporting is ready for review at the right time.

What you’ll be trusted with

You’ll bring together accounting knowledge, strong organisation and a practical understanding of how good financial information supports operational teams.

Working across Pharmacy and Funeral, you’ll help produce periodic management accounts and give the Senior Management Accountant the detail needed to review performance with confidence.

You’ll need to be comfortable working to deadlines, asking the right questions and following through on the details that protect accuracy and control.

Day to day, this could include:

  • Preparing management accounts for our Pharmacy and Funeral trading areas, making sure they are accurate, relevant and delivered on time
  • Analysing variances and helping explain changes in income, costs and margins against forecasts
  • Preparing journals such as accruals, prepayments and reclassifications, with clear supporting records
  • Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and following up reconciling items promptly
  • Highlighting risks, aged balances or unusual items so they can be reviewed and resolved
  • Supporting financial controls, Society policies, tax requirements, audit standards and year-end activity
  • Working with colleagues across Finance and Care to turn financial information into practical insight

It’s a varied role where accuracy matters, but so does communication. You’ll be helping colleagues understand what the figures mean, where attention is needed and how strong financial processes support better outcomes.

About You

Someone who is curious, careful and confident with financial detail

You might already be building your career in finance, or you may be ready for a role where you can take more ownership of management accounts, reconciliations and analysis.

What matters most is that you’re organised, accurate and able to work with people as well as numbers. You’ll be AAT Level 3 qualified, or have equivalent experience, and keen to keep developing your professional knowledge.

  • Experience in an accounting or finance role, with an understanding of month-end or period-end processes
  • Confidence using Excel and financial systems to organise, review and present information
  • A careful approach to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy while working to deadlines
  • Good planning skills and the ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload
  • The communication skills to explain financial information clearly and build effective working relationships
  • A professional, proactive approach, with integrity when handling confidential or sensitive financial information

If you enjoy solving problems, getting underneath the detail and helping others feel confident in the information they use, you’ll fit well in this role.

What you’ll get in return

You’ll be joining a supportive Society where your work helps strengthen services that matter locally. Alongside that sense of purpose, you’ll receive a benefits package that includes:

  • 30 days annual leave (pro rata), including bank holidays.
  • A pension scheme with up to 12% employer contributions.
  • Generous colleague discounts across our family of businesses.
  • Access to a wide range of professional development opportunities.

We’re also proud to be an Investors in People Platinum employer, recognising our commitment to helping colleagues learn, develop and build rewarding careers.

Ready to bring clarity to finance?

If you’re ready to use your finance experience to support accurate reporting, strong controls and better decision-making across Pharmacy and Funeral, we’d be pleased to hear from you.
